Acquisition Information

This collection was a gift from John Bott, the librarian at Langley High School, McLean, Virginia, on January 25, 1971.

Biographical/Historical Information

John E. Fletcher and his wife Irma resided in Greene County, Virginia, where Fletcher's principal business was the buying and selling of land. These properties were valued according to their cultivation potential and the mineral content; the mineral mentioned most often was copper.

Scope and Content Information

The following refer to mineral sightings and rights: 1877 August 21, 1899 August 20, 1900 February & February 3, 1900 July 30, 1900 September 1, 18 & 22, 1901 April 15, 1902 March 22, 1903 May 27, and two undated documents. Also present are copies of Irma Fletcher's will (1941 March 15), and Wilbur Haywood Fletcher's will (1953 July 14). Additional documents in the Miscellaneous Papers file include advertisements for an adding machine, a circular saw mill, a boring machine, a sewing machine, and a grinding mill.
