This collection was collection was purchased by the Library on October 7, 1991.
This collection consists of a 4-page letter from Charles Augustus Davis to an unidentified general on September 12, 1861. He writes concerning a military appointment for a young friend. Davis also says he has lost all sympathy for the South, comments on Russian and French reactions to the war, declares that he would wage a defensive war only, reports that he has incurred some financial losses from both Confederate and Union confiscations, and hopes he lives to see a successful outcome.
