Letter from John Pendleton Kennedy to George P. Putnam, Accession # 6954-m, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This holding was purchased on May 20, 1992.
In this letter to George P. Putnam, discussing various magazine subscriptions, John Pendleton Kennedy, Baltimore, Maryland, explains his delay in sending a promised article for his magazine, and mentioning taking on the presidency of a rail road company. He explains that the delay was due to personal misfortunes, particularly the deaths of loved ones, including his mother, from the outbreak of cholera. While he intends to comply with the promise, he indicates that he is not used to working under these conditions, "having been always accustomed to await the suggestions of my own inclinations..."
