This holding was purchased on May 27, 1993.
In this letter to editor Richard Watson Gilder (1844-1909), Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924), Maytham Hall, Rolvenden, Kent [England], discusses some changes she wants to make on the proof of her book The Shuttle . Burnett suggests that the first Vanderpoel be a tradesman from the North of England instead of a Dutchman or that the wife of the first Vanderpoel be the daughter of such a man. She feels that this would explain "English blood being stronger..." in the main character, Betty [Bettina Vanderpoel] "than the other blood..."
