Architectural Drawing of "Farmington", Accession # 6846-de, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This drawing was transferred from the Rare Book Department on September 30, 1975, as part of 6846-p. It was reaccessioned as 6846-de on January 13, 1987.
This architectural drawing (fragment)of the ground floor of "Farmington," Albemarle County, Virginia, is possibly a study produced by Robert Mills (1781-1855) late in his career. Mills studied architecture under Thomas Jefferson, who designed the additions to the original residence (built by Francis Jerdone in 1760) for his friend George Divers, in 1802. The paper bears the following watermark of "J. Whatman Turkey Mill 1855," a type of paper known to have been used extensively by Mills.
