This collection was given to the Library on [December 17, 1963] February 20, 1967.

Scope and Content Information

The collection contains letters to his friend John Wilson Townsend, Kentucky author and bookseller, emphasizing the value of their friendship, as well as discussing his political opinion of Kennedy and the election of 1960, and the work of Joe Jordan and Edgar Lee Masters.

Advises him on the sale of book; says he is outraged by some people's attitude; talks about a book by Joe Jordan, whom he believes deserves the Pulitzer Prize as did Edgar Lee Masters; reflects on upcoming general elections; gives reasons for his dislike of John F. Kennedy, and why he is a Richard Nixon supporter now; calls New York's mayor Wagner the most corrupt creature in existence who is not up to his job.
