This material was given to the Library by the Estate of Franklin Gilliam [Franklin Gilliam Rare Books, Charlottesville, Virginia] on May 22, 1995.
This collection contains the papers of Clifton Waller Barrett and his wife Cornelia H. Barrett. Correspondence and papers include a postcard, August 11, 1981, from Lou[is] Auchincloss to Barrett; a letter, January 28, 1985, from Julius P. Barclay, Curator of Rare Books at the University of Virginia Library concerning Quotations from Henry James Selected by Louis Auchincloss ; "Remarks at the Funeral of Clifton Waller Barrett by Edgar F. Shannon, Jr./November 11, 1991"; a notecard, March 31, 1992, from Robert Winfield Rennie to Franklin Gilliam enclosing these papers and photographs; and, a notecard to Cornelia Barrett from Virginia and Erskine [Caldwell]. The photographs include Cornelia H. and Clifton Waller Barrett and various people from the 1950s through the 1970s. Photographs are taken at "Arcadia," the Special Collections Department at the University of Virginia Library, at the Grolier Club, the Walpole Society, the Lake Placid Club, and in Europe. Other persons included in the photographs are Julius P. Barclay, Joan St. Crane, and William H. Runge of the University of Virginia Library; and, William B. O'Neal, Frank and Anne Hereford, and Erskine and Virginia Caldwell.
