This collection was a gift to the Library by Allen E. Turner of Vienna, Virginia, on January 4, 1993.

Scope and Content Information

There are 20 items, 1991-1992, pertaining to the Virginia Cultural Laureate Society's posthumous award to Clifton Waller Barrett, on March 7, 1992. Included are copies of correspondence concerning Barrett's nomination and the ceremony, a press release announcing the new Laureates of Virginia, lists of the 1992 Laureates, programs, information on the Society and its awards, and a certificate in recognition of the outstanding achievements of Clifton Waller Barrett in the field of Manuscripts and Rare Books. Correspondents include Anne E. H. Freudenberg, Richard T. Barrett, Edmund Berkeley, Jr., and John T. Casteen, III. There is also a medal inscribed "Clifton W. Barrett/Laureate of Virginia/Manuscripts and Book Rarities/1992."
