The letters were transferred to the Manuscripts Department, from the Rare Book Department, Alderman Library, on July 18, 1986, and bear no restrictions.
The two letters, written February 14 and March 7, 1952, by Frances Parkinson Keyes to Meredith Johnson (including a copy of a letter sent to Archer Jones), concern the former's efforts to engage a researcher in Virginia to assist her in acquirinq information relevant to the actions of a character in her new novel, [ Steamboat Gothic ]. Mrs. Keyes employed both Archer Jones and James Kinard of the University of Virginia for this purpose.
