Papers of the Tennis Family, Accession #260, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This collection was given to the Library by LeGrand Tennis of Phoebus, Virginia, in 1938.
This collection consists of ca. 60 letters, 1918-1919, 1925, n.d., chiefly during the first World War, and graduation programs, 1916-1922, from various Virginia schools attended by the Tennis family members, certificates, 1915-1936, and dance cards, 1920-1927, from the College of William and Mary. The letters were written by W. J. Tennis and Roy L. Scriven to members of the Tennis family. The letters from W. J. Tennis describe his experiences at Base Hospital 41 in France and sightseeing in Paris and the surrounding area. The letters from Scriven are chiefly concerned with providing financial support for his family because of his wife's death while he was overseas.
