These items were given to the Library without restrictions by Ms. Dorothea Nelson Horsfall of Chatham, Massachusetts, and Mr. Robert Nelson of West Islip, New York, on July 20, 1990.
This collection consists of a framed engraving of Hugh Nelson (1768-1836), born at Yorktown, Virginia, made from the original crayon portrait sketched by Charles Fevret de Saint-Memin, and a black and white photographic copy of the engraving. According to the book Saint-Memin in Virginia: Portraits and Biographies by Fillmore Norfleet, there were no known engravings of the Nelson portrait.
