Greer-Poe Collection, Accession #3565-b, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
The material, which is part of a larger gift including books on Poe held by the Rare Books Department, was willed by Miss Greer to the Alderman Library in memory of Dr. James Southall Wilson, the Poe scholar with whom she stuided during her student days at the University of Virginia.
The Greer-Poe collection consists of Miss Louise Greer's essays on Poe's life and work, her notes on biographies of Poe and his literary criticism, and correspondence addressed to her primarily from libraries in response to her requests for material concerning Poe, as well as postcards and photographs relating to Poe. Miss Greer, a Browning scholar whose manuscript Browning and America is also held by this department, compiled this material for use in her graduate instruction at East Carolina College.
The collection is filed by subjet.
