Hench-Mencken Papers, Accession #4030-g, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
These papers were given to the Manuscripts Department on January 1, 1975 by Mr. Hench's daughter, Mrs. Oscar W. Underwood, III.
This addition to the Atcheson L. Hench H. L. Mencken collection, 1937-1970, has 17 items consisting of Mr. Hench's correspondence which includes two letters from Mencken to him, an article which grew out of their letters, "The Mencken-Hench Correspondence," newspaper articles by and about Mencken, and an article attacking Mencken by Norman J. Radder, "Mr. Mencken and Rough Work."
