Commonplace Book of Anna Cornell, Accession #6526-j, Special Collections Dept., University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
This item was a gift to the Library on June 4, 1986, from Clifton Waller Barrett of Charlottesville, Virginia, through the Rare Book Department.
This commonplace book, ca. 1831-1834, was kept by Anna [?] Cornell and includes poetry and essays written by family members: M. Cornell, Sarah Elisabeth [Cornell?], Frederick F. Cornell, and Frederick Frelinghuysen, and others. Most of the writings are spiritual in nature, and many of them are tributes to mothers including an obituary of Maria Cornell, mother of Anne.
Many of the pages contain small engravings or water colors at the top. The volume is bound in red leather, with gold stamping around the border of the covers, and along the length of the spine.
