These files constitute the major record series generated by Edgar F. Shannon, Jr., the president of the University of Virginia. The records consist chiefly of correspondence, but also include reports, minutes, clippings, memoranda, and related papers concerning all areas of business of the president's office.

The papers consist of general and committee files.

Separated Material

Box 28 has been removed from the collection. Its original contents, Reports of the Institutional Analysis Office, have been re-accessioned as RG-4/4/1.771.
