Scope and Content

The collection contains files on reference topics researched for patrons and University offices by archives assistant Jeanne Pardee. Each file of material includes the accession number and title of collections searched for answers.

Topics include the Lacy Withers Armour portrait; Arthur Ashe; Harry Clemons in China; Peabody Hall; Guy Lombardo and "Auld Lang Syne" at the University of Virginia; first medical graduates; 1998 visit of the Office of Civil Rights; 1979 visit of the Dalai Lama; Walter Reed professorship in pathology; African American professor Nathan Johnson; University of Virginia myths, legends and superstitions; 1963 visit of Martin Luther King, Jr.; Franklin D. Roosevelt's "The Hand that Held the Dagger" speech, 1941; James R. McConnell at the University of Virginia; McGregor Room gates; and the 1917 platinum theft.

With these is Pardee's compilation of useful Archives reference sources; a list of Virginia Colleges, 1880; and a list of Commencement Speakers, 1908-1988.
