Seller bought this volume from the estate of Colgate Dorr, some of whose papers are cataloged under Mss. Acc. 2009.586, Colgate Dorr Papers. The Hoyt and Dorr families intermarried in the early part of the 19th century.

Composition book of Elizabeth Hoyt of Hell Gate, N.Y. Her essays cover a variety of topics and date from 1838-1843. A number of pages from the middle of the volume have been cut out.
Mss. Acc. 2009.586, Colgate Dorr Papers, 1912-1944.The Hoyt and Dorr families intermarried in the early part of the 19th century and both sets of papers were acquired from the estate of Colgate Dorr.
