Biographical Note

Gladys Sokolow graduated from Christiansburg Industrial Institute in 1953. Sokolow grew up in Pulaski County, Virginia and was bused seventy miles every day to and from school. After graduation, she pursued a degree in Library Science. She served as a librarian in New York City for thirty-six years before moving back to Christiansburg, Virginia. She served as Treasurer of the Christiansburg Institute Alumni Association Board of Directors as well as Executive Director Emeritus of the Christiansburg Institute, Inc. Board of Directors.

Scope and Content

Gladys Sokolow collected graduation photographs, C.I.I. alum Waymon Pack’s certificates, student autograph book, newspaper clippings, and a photo scrapbook from fellow Christiansburg Industrial Institute alumni. The scrapbook contains early photographs from local African American schools and Sokolow’s personal photographs.
