James Mercer was an American lawyer and jurist who served as a delegate for Virginia to the Continental Congress in 1779.
Scope and Content
Safe conduct pass for two slaves to travel from Fredericksburg, Virginia, to Williamsburg. Signed by Mercer's steward, Thomas Oliver . Requests the slaves be afforded hospitalit y at inns along the way, as was the usual custom; reverse contains account of expenses.
