Letter, dated 8 May 1795, from Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) of Albemarle County, Virginia, to Colonel William Overton Callis (1757-1814) of Louisa County, Virginia, requesting that Callis negotiate the purchase of a slave woman for him from his brother-in-law Hastings Marks (ca. 1755-1811), who had married Anna Scott Jefferson (1755-1828).
