Biographical/Historical Information
The Radford Iron Company was incorporated 20 March 1867, for the purpose of mining or manufacturing coal, iron, or other ores in Montgomery County, Virginia, near the New River. Members of the company at the time of incorporation included W.E. Eskridge, John Fulton, Edward Hammett, Albert G. Pendleton, and John B. Radford. From internal evidence it appears that the company furnace was located in Pulaski County, Virginia.
Scope and Content Information
Letter book, 1870-1873, concerning orders for supplies and outgoing shipments of iron. The company shipped its products via canal from Lynchburg or by the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad. Among the purchasers were the Tredegar Iron Company and the Old Dominion Iron Company of Richmond, and firms in Baltimore, Maryland, New York, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Abstracts of company financial statements are also recorded in the volume.
