Scope and Content Information
Ledger, 1762-1787, containing the accounts of William Cryer and Company, a mercantile business located in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Accounts are arranged by account holder and include their name, the date of the transaction, type of transaction or item sold, and amount. Merchandise sold includes rum, cloth, clothing, and building supplies. Payment generally made in the form of cash; although, there are entries in the ledger where customers sold tobacco to the store in exchange for credit. This collection also includes a taxable property list, 9 March 1787, for Robert Cryer principally consisting of a list of slaves owned by him; and a list, n. d., of the buildings owned by Robert and John Cryer including the length and width of each structure.
