Biographical/Historical Information
Patrick Henry was born 29 May 1736 in Hanover County, Virginia, to John and Sara Winston Henry. He served as a delegate to the Continental Congress and Virginia Convention, governor of Virginia 1776-1779, 1784- 1786, and delegate to the Virginia Constitution Ratification Convention, 1788. He was married to Sarah Shelton and Dorothea Dandridge. He died 6 June 1799 at his home on Red Hill Plantation, Charlotte County, Virginia.
Scope and Content Information
The first portion of this volume (folios 1-98) covers the period from 1758 to 1760 and contains store accounts. Entries record the sale of cloth, clothing, buttons, and hats. The entries are in different handwriting from that in the second portion of the volume. The second portion (folios 99-156) cover the years 1760 through 1763. Entries are recorded for fees charged by Henry for legal services. Accounts are with individuals from Hanover and surrounding counties. Among the accounts are those for Alexander Baine, Charles Crenshaw, James Dix, Col. Thomas Tabb, Isaac Winston, and Thomas Yuille. This section of the volume contains an index.
