Biographical/Historical Information
Valentine White served at various times at deputy sheriff in Augusta County, Virginia, and tax commissioner and constable in Bath County, Virginia, after the Revolutionary War.
Scope and Content Information
Receipt book, 1781, kept by Valentine White while transporting public hemp from Virginia to Philadelphia (Pa.) and includes receipts for money paid by White to individuals for lodging, provision, etc. Individuals signing receipts resided in Albemarle, Augusta, Botetourt, Orange, and Rockbridge Counties, Virginia.
