Biographical/Historical Information
John H. Lewis was a physician and mill owner of Jefferson County, (West) Virginia.
Scope and Content Information
One ledger records patient accounts, listing names, dates of visit, nature of treatment, charges, and prescribed medication, as well as individual accounts for grist and sawmill services. Accounts are with individuals from Fairfax, Fauquier, Frederick, Jefferson, and Loudoun Counties, Virginia. (Acc. 22243; 1805-1818)
The second ledger records accounts for the milling of rye, corn, wheat, and flour. There are also entries for planking cut by Lewis. Interesting comments by Lewis on the settlement of an account with James Smith by arbitration can be found in the ledger. The volume includes an index.(Acc. 22244; 1817-1834).
