Biographical Information
Judah Forrer was born on 7 August 1836, the son of Christian and Sarah Forrer of Page County, Virginia. He married Frances Amanda Brumback on 8 November 1860 in Page County, Virginia. He enlisted in the "Dixie Artillery" at Winchester, Virginia, on 26 August 1861 and was discharged following his brother Christian's death on 30 January 1862. He reenlisted on 1 February 1864 in the 43rd Virginia Cavalry and served until the end of the war. Judah Forrer died on 4 August 1875 and was interred in the Forrer family cemetery. In 1882 his body was removed from the Forrer family graveyard and reinterred in Page County's Green Hill Cemetery.
Scope and Content
Letters, 15 September 1862 and 22 February 1864, exchanged between the Forrer family of Page and Shenandoah Counties, Virginia, during the Civil War. Includes letter, 15 September 1862, from Kate Forrer in New Market, Shenandoah County, concerning the death of her brother Christian who died of wounds received in battle and preparations for his burial. There is also a letter, 22 February 1864, sent from Judah Forrer at Nomony Hall in Westmoreland County, Virginia, to his wife Frances Amanda "Fannie" Forrer concerning events in Westmoreland County and his health and condition.
