Scope and Content
Ledger C, 1854-1864, of Lexington Savings Institution that records the accounts of individual customers. Each account lists transactions in chronological order. Information found in each entry include dates of transactions, deposits, withdrawals, and interest earned. Entries dated 1864 include payments for war tax. Virginia Military Institute and many of its cadets and instructors, including Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, were customers of the savings institution. The ledger includes an index listing the names of customers in alphabetical order and the page numbers where their accounts can be found.
