Biographical/Historical Information

Joseph Dupuy was born 12 December 1797 in Nottoway County, Virginia, to James Dupuy (1758-1823) and Mary Purnell Dupuy (1763-1828). A member of the prominent Dupuy family of Prince Edward County, Virginia, Dupuy settled there and served in the militia, rising to the rank of colonel. He married first, Mary Dupuy Edmunds (d. 1839) 15 May 1834, and second, Sarah Watkins Walker (d. 1864) 21 December 1842. Dupuy and his first wife had no children; he and his second wife had nine children. Dupuy died 18 January 1867 in Prince Edward County.

Scope and Content Information

Account book, 1856-1865, of Joseph Dupuy (1797-1867) of Prince Edward County, Virginia, as executor of John Watson (d. 1856) of Prince Edward County, listing all credits and debts on the estate with payments made and received. Also includes the estate's accounts with the following banks: the Savings Bank at Farmville, Virginia; the Farmers Bank at Farmville; the Farmers Bank at Richmond, Virginia; and the Exchange Bank at Richmond. Also contains a list of slaves emancipated by Watson's will, including ages and family relations. There is an index to this volume.
