Biographical Note
Edmund "Ned" Berkley Jr. worked as an archivist at the University of Virginia and was a researcher-writer/editor. Berkeley was known for his pioneering work on paper clips and their impact on paper in the archival community. His research and work is a topic in this correspondence. Doug Bakken was a Midwest archivist whose archives career was in Nebraska Historical Society, Cornell University, Anheuser-Busch, and the Henry Ford Museum.
Content Description
This collection contains the correspondence between Edmund "Ned" Berkeley, Jr. and Doug Bakken, two archival colleagues and close professional friends, circa 1965-1983. The correspondence is a mix of personal and professional topics but primarily focuses on their respective work in archives. Also contained are four pages of Bakken's reflections on their personal and professional relationship that he sent along with the donation of this material.
