Biographical Note

Joel Kovarsky is the author of "The True Geography of Our Country," and the owner of The Prime Meridian. He was also a rheumatologist who had a career in medicine, mainly at the Texas Medical Center in Houston. Before he retired, he earned a master's degree in information science and interned at the University of Virginia's Special Collections Library, where he was involved in cataloging maps.

He became interested in antique maps and eventually formed the company, The Prime Meridian: Antique Maps and Books. For seven years he contributed the "recent publications" column of the Washington Map Society's bulletin.

Scope and Contents

Joel Kovarsky papers (2011-2013; 0.25 cubic feet) consist of drafts from his book, "The True Geography of Our Country," the book proposal, e-mail correspondence with his editor, Mark Mones, and the Virginia Press.

Arrangement

Manuscript chapters are arranged in order by chapter followed by epilogue, bibliography, endnotes, index, a book proposal and correspondence with the publisher.
