Biographical / Historical

Philip Aylett Fitzhugh was born in 1824 in Middlesex County, Virginia. He graduated VMI in 1846 and went on to be a physician and a Confederate veteran. Fitzhugh died in 1908 in Northampton, Virginia.

Scope and Contents

The Philip A. Fitzhugh papers consist of papers relating to Fitzhugh, with a bulk dating from his cadetship. The collection includes: Six letters from Fitzhugh to his brother that contain references to cadet life (graduation; hazing "plebes"; death of Henry C.
