Biographical / Historical

William Estill Fife was born in 1834 in Charleston, West Virginia. He graduated from VMI in 1855. During the Civil War he was a Lieutenant Colonel with the 36th Virginia Infantry. After the War, Fife was a farmer. He died in a railroad accident in 1891 in Puntnam County, West Virginia.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of one VMI quarterly grade report for Cadet William E. Fife, dated April 1, 1852. The document was completed and signed by Superintendent Francis H. Smith.
