Biographical / Historical

Samuel Wilson Marshall, Jr. was born in 1905 in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from VMI in 1925. During World War II he was an United States Army officer. After the War he was a consulting engineer. Marshall died in 1988 in Dallas.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of documents from the career of Samuel W. Marshall, Jr., a consulting engineer whose area of expertise was weapons guidance systems. The collection includes four bound volumes: VMI thesis titled "Lightning Protection for Transmission Systems" (1931) "Proposal for Bureau of Aeronautics, Navy Department, Washington DC" re: guidance systems for pilotless aircraft (1946; declassified in 1991) Two volume report titled "Investigations studies & analyses of Guidance Systems for Pilotless Aircraft" (1947; declassified in 1991)
