Biographical Note
Ames and Margaret Vanwormer are listed in the 1880 census as a married couple living in Hamilton County, Nebraska. Both were born in Pennsylvania--he ca. 1836, she ca. 1841. Also living in the household were their children: Caroline, Charles, Henry, Birdy, and Alvira. (The census indicates that the oldest two children had been born in Iowa; the latter 3, Nebraska.) Boarding with the family was 21-year-old Edward M. Vanwormer. No further biographical information could be found.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of a brief letter from Margaret and Ames Vanwormer to an unnamed brother. The letter relates entirely to personal matters, mentioning the illness of Edward Matthew; news of Charles, James and Samuel Lake; and plans to move away from Fort [Dodge?].
