Biographical Note
James Joshua Ivey (1823-1890) was the son of Peter and Sallie (or Sarah) Ivey and a farmer in Chesterfield County near Petersburg, Virginia. His brother was J. W. Ivey of Lynchburg. He married E. Adelaide M. (Ada or Addie) Gresham (1835-1918) on March 24, 1852, and their children included Walter G., Sarah M., and Robert J.
