Biographical Note
Henry Scott Murray was a solider in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Murray mustered into the army as a private on October 30, 1861. By the time Murray mustered out of the army on June 30, 1865, he had attained the rank of seargent. Following the war, Murray returned to New York where he worked as a tin smith.

Scope and Content
This collection contains a letter sent from Henry Scott Murray to his brother, John Murray, Jr., in New York. Henry Murray writes about his life in the army, sickness in the army, and the need for additional troops. Also included in this collection is a typed transcript of the letter.
