Source of Acquisition

The Sutler price list was purchased by Special Collections and University Archives in April 2023.

Processing Information

The processing, arrangement, and description of the Sutler Price List was completed in May 2025.

Administrative History

Sutler stores were located in many army camps throughout the 19th century, mainly durning the American Civil War, and provided a place for the soldiers to purchase goods from an appointed seller, the sutler.

Scope and Content

This collection contains a price list of bulk items from Sutler's Stores, c. 1861-1865. Some items include smoked beef, flour, and dried fruits. The list consists of prices from orders made by military units.
