Biographical Note
Samuel Legrand Campbell was born in 1766 in Rockbridge County, Virginia. He graduated from Liberty Hall Academy, now Washington and Lee University, in 1788. He served as Rector of the Board of Trustees/ President of Liberty Hall Academy from 1797-1798 and Washington College from 1798-1799.
Scope and Contents
This collection contains the Liberty Hall Academy diploma of Samuel Legrand Campbell dated 1788. Liberty Hall Academy is now Washington and Lee University. The original ribbon and seal are still attached. Campbell's graduation year is misdated in various editions of the W&L Alumni Directory as 1789.
Campbell also signed his name inside of a Liberty Hall Academy library book, call number B1299.N3 M3 1759, volume 1.
