Biographical Note
Dr. William Swam Plumer was born on July 26, 1802 in Pennsylvania. He graduated from Washington College, now Washington and Lee University, in 1825. Plumer later graduated from the Princeton Theological Seminary and was ordained in the Presbyterian Church. He served in the ministry for many years and served in Petersburg and Richmond, Va. and later Baltimore, Md. and Pennsylvania. He died on October 22, 1880.
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of two manuscripts written by Dr. William S. Plumer. The earliest is titled "Our Country" and was an address presented before the Washington College alumni in June 1841. The manuscript includes his edits and notes. The second one was written in June 1867 and was also presented before the alumni of Washington College about the study of ancient languages. It is also includes edits and notes.
