Historical Note

Liberty Hall Academy was originally founded as Augusta Academy in 1749. The school became Liberty Hall Academy when the school moved from Augusta County to a location in Timber Ridge (in current day Rockbridge County). The name changed a couple of more times before being named Washington and Lee University in 1870.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains the legal document incorporating the Rector and Trustees of Liberty Hall Academy as a seminary passed in October 1782.
