Immediate Source of Acquisition
The $10 Peoples National Bank note was a gift to the Rockbridge Historical Society of Skip Hess of Lexington, Virginia in May or June of 2019.
Scope and Contents
This collection contains a printed pamphlet entitled "The Peoples National Bank of Lexington, Virginia: Statement of Condition, July 1, 1911," a 1937 photograph of two African-American men, one with a jack hammer, demolishing a section of the Peoples National Bank which was originally located in Lexington's "Tutwiler Building," and a ten dollar national currency note printed by the United States Federal Reserve for the Peoples Bank of Lexington and with its name included on the bill.
