Biographical Information:
Joseph Thompson McAllister was author of several books, Historical Sketches of Virginia Hot Springs, Warm Sulphur Springs and Bath County, Virginia (1908) and Virginia Militia in the Revolutionary War: McAllister's Data (1913).
Scope and Contents
Notebooks of typescript or handwritten abstracts of land documents and Revolutionary War records kept by J[oseph] T . McAllister, a lawyer from Warm Springs, Virginia. Most of the land abstracts are from Bath County, Virginia from the late 1700's to mid 1800's, though some records are from the 1910/11 era for Bath County and 1904 era for Highland County. The Revolutionary transcripts include many war service declarations from many Virginia Counties.
He was author of several books, Historical Sketches of Virginia Hot Springs, Warm Sulphur Springs and Bath County, Virginia (1908) and Virginia Militia in the Revolutionary War: McAllister's Data (1913).

"R, This book contains land listed in Highland [County] 1904 and transfers of real estate in Bath County from January 1, 1910 to January 31, 1911. Divided into district and alphabetical within district. Gives acreage, location and tax rate.
Bound notebook with notes, letters and research on the Revolutionary War. Table of Contents on the first page, which includes "Notes on article on Battle of Point Pleasant," "Letter to Virgil A. Lewis" (1901) and "The John -Stuart Memorandum in Deed Book in Lewisburg."
Notebook with table of contents, "Contents of Book 'E' and 'K'" with extracts and declarations of Revolutionary War Service from Alleghany County, Augusta County, Bath County, Wythe County, Botetourt County, Orange County, Augusta County and Shenandoah County. Includes index of names. Some wills and other collaborating documents included. Most of the notebook is handwritten, but also has typed transcriptions and possibly a few original documents. Includes two pamphlets, "A Brief History of Bath County, Virginia" published in 1920 by Jean Graham McAllister.
Notebook entitled "History" with a table of contents which includes a talk, "Incidents in the Pioneer, Colonial and Revolutionary History of the West Virginia Area," "Historical Sketch of Covington Presbyterian Church, " notes on Virginia Counties with their date of creation and acquisition of territory, condensed statements of Virginia Militia from McAllister's Book "A," Indian Facts and transcripts from Will Book I from Bath County. Most pages are typed transcripts, but some pages are handwritten.
