Biographical / Historical

Captain Edward Rush Young was stationed on Jamestown Island, Virginia during 1861. He was born in Granville County, North Carolina and practiced medicine in Halifax County, Virginia. He was Captin of the Company of Riflemen from Halifax County, Virginia during the Civil War.

Scope and Contents

The diary of Edward Rush Young, Camp Island, Jamestown Island, Virginia, June 2-September 6, 1861, describes the challenges and minutiae of camp life and skirmishes. Typescript. The diary was transcribed by Morrison Bennett in 1987.
