Collection is open to all researchers. Custodial History

This collection was originally integrated with the Civil War Collection, Mss. 39.1 C76, until November 2017. The former citation was Civil War Collection, Special Collections Research Center, Swem Library, College of William and Mary.

Mrs. Elon Henkel, New Market, VA, contributed to the Confederate States of America notes. The Armstrong Papers contributed notes. Acc No. 1998.47 has been integrated, as well.


Scope and Contents

This collection contains the paper currency of the Confederacy. The bonds and notes were issued from various states, banks, and other sources between 1861-1864. The issuers include the Confederate States of America, the Virginia Treasury, the City of Richmond, the Monticello Bank, City of Lynchburg, and many others.
