Biographical Information:
Bradley Tyler Johnson was born in 1829. He attended Princeton University. He became a lawyer and entered Democratic Party politics. Johnson led the Maryland Confederate cavalry under Wade Hampton in opposing the Kilpatrick-Dahlgren Raid, led a cavalry brigade under Jubal Early in the Valley of Virginia in 1864, and executed Early's order to burn Chambersburg, Pa. He wrote a Memoir of the Life and Public Service of Joseph E. Johnston (1891) and General Washington (1894). Johnson from former and fellow Civil War soldiers concerning the burning of Chambersburg, Pa., conflict between Jubal Early and William Mahone, and the Kilpatrick-Dahlgren Raid.
