Biographical Information:

James Jarvis was born in Portsmouth, Va. in 1791. He served as an orderly sergeant in the Portsmouth Rifles, a militia company. He operated a boatbuilding yard and later inspected timbers for Gosport Navy Yard. He died at Portsmouth in 1862. Scope and Contents

Reminiscences, February 22, 1846 of the War of 1812 and of the American Revolution. Concerns the Battle of Great Bridge, Norfolk County, Virginia, December 9 1775; and the attack on and defense of Craney Island, also in Norfolk County, June 22, 1813.
