Scope and Contents
Minute book of the Brotherhood of Local Firemen Lodge #203 (Gary, Ind.) for the years 1884-1889. The following description was provided by the seller: "This 8 1/2" x 12 1/2" ledger ... represents the start of the Brotherhood of Local Fireman from Garrett, Indiana, March 8, 1884. ... The first page has an embossed circle with a locomotive centered and edge writings which read "Garfield Lodge No. 203 B. of L.F., Garrett, Ind.". Inside the circle is embossed "Organized March 8, 1884". The front cover is missing and the back cover is loose. The first two pages are loose and soiled and starting to turn brittle. An inside section (12 pages connected) which was bound with string is loose. On the first written page at the heading is "Minnet Book" and below this are the minutes from the first meeting when organized by one S.M. Stevens G.Q.& I. from Terre Haute, Ind. and also dated March 8, 1884. These first two pages also have corner damage as well as the next three. After that the remaining 180 pages are in good condition with soiling on some corners. There are no missing pages and the minutes (once a month) read from 1884 through Feb. 1st, 1889. "
