Collection is open to all researchers. Biographical / Historical
Tom Angleberger (William & Mary '92) is an American author and illustrator of children's and middle-grade books. He has published approximately 20 titles, some co-written or co-illustrated. Angleberger is best known for his New York Times bestselling Origami Yoda series. In addition to his fiction, Angleberger worked as a newspaper reporter for the Roanoke Times. He is married to fellow author and illustrator, Cece Bell.
Scope and Contents
The collection showcases the creative and revisionary process for a published children's author, including editing interactions and the development of characters. The five book projects include manuscript editing (mostly done by hand in red or black pen) and some story art. There are also materials related to Angleberger's publishing queries and ink testing.

Materials are arranged by book project title, in alphabetical order. Within each project folder, original order has been maintained.

This title is part of a chapter-book series about two dodo birds - one a baker and the other a spy - who solve mysteries together. It was published in 2019 and illustrated by Jared Chapman.
Biographical / HistoricalJared Chapman is an author and illustrator who has also worked in animation.

FuzzyEnglishScope and Contents
This book was published in hardcover in 2016, paperback in 2018. It is co-authored by Tom Angleberger and Paul Dellinger. It tells the story of a robot named Fuzzy who enrolls in seventh grade where he makes friends with a fellow student named Max and enemies with his vice principal.

Full title: Horton Halfpott Or, The Fiendish Mystery of Smugwick Manor; or, The Loosening of M'Lady Luggertuck's Corset.
This middle-grade novel centers on an item's mysterious disappearance from Smugwick Manor and the kitchen boy, Horton Halfpott, who is blamed for the theft. It was published in 2011.

Nellie Nutgraf is a character from Angleberger's series of books, published online in 2019. Nutgraf is a newspaper reporter who writes stories about major events and personalities, including Paul Bunyan, Benjamin Franklin, and even Bigfoot.

Return of the JediEnglishScope and Contents
Includes draft table of contents, with edits in black pen; draft decisions about placement of ten interior paintings by artist Ralph McQuarrie throughout the book; manuscript edits in red pen, chapters are not always numbered.
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - Beware the Power of the Darkside was published in 2015. It is an adaptation of the 1983 Return of the Jedi, directed by George Lucas. The text is written for middle grade readers (approximately 8-12 years old) with artwork by McQuarrie interdispersed.
Biographical / HistoricalRalph McQuarrie (1929-2012) was an illustrator and designer who worked on the original Star Wars film trilogy, ET, the Extra-Terrestrial, and Cocoon. His conceptual illustrations were instrumental in bringing the original Star Wars script to life.
Series contains correspondence between Angleberger and publishering houses, Henry Holt Books for Young Readers and Farrar Straus Giroux, as he sought a publisher for his 2012 book, Horton Halfpott.
The letter to Farrar Straus and Giroux is an illustrated piece with characters from Horton Halfpott included in the text. There are two copies of this letter, with slightly different text.
