Historical Note:

The Keystone League was founded as part of a broader effort of youth ministry in the United States. It was associated with the Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor, but was a separate entity under the direction of its own church leadership. The membership was composed of youths, those under 12 years of age holding associate and junior members, while older members held voting rights and were active in official capacities. The society encourages good Christian lifestyles which included a vow to read the Bible and pray every day, temperance, charitable works, and participation in church services, worship, prayer meetings, and Sunday school. In fact, part of the membership pledge involves a promise to involve oneself in singing during worship. Ottis Albright, secretary for second half of the minute book was the younger cousin of Jacob Albright, founder of the Evangelical Association.

S. in 1807 with the leadership of Pennsylvania German evangelist Jacob Albright, who was born near Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Albright had been influenced by the Methodist and Wesleyan outreach in rural Pennsylvania. Albright's followers were called the "Dutch Methodists", and later adopted the name Evangelische Gemeinschatt (Evangelical Association.) Lather they became the Evangelical Church. In 1946 they merged with the United Brethren in Christ to become the United Evangelical Brethren in Christ. The also merged later with the Methodists. The Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor: The Young People's Society of Christian Endeavour was founded in Portland, Maine, in 1881. It is a nondenominational youth ministry group, and is considered the origin of modern youth ministry. Its founder was Francis Edward Clark of the Williston Congregational Church. The group's goal was "to promote an earnest Christian life among its members, to increase their mutual acquaintanceship, and to make them more useful in the service of God." The organization soon became a world movement, with international conventions. By 1906 there were 67,000 youth-led Christian Endeavor societies worldwide, with four million members. In 1887, Francis E. Clark was elected president of the United Society, and in 1895 he was chosen as the World President of the Christian Endeavor Union, followed by Daniel A. Poling. World Conventions were held in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1937 and 1951. The organization's world headquarters moved from Boston, Massachusetts, to Columbus, Ohio, in 1952. Christian Endeavor International continues today, based in Edmore, Michigan, and operates in 80 countries. The CEO is Timothy Eldred."
