Abstract
Transcripts, handwritten notes, newspaper clippings, correspondence, bills of lading, and a legal notice regarding the Scott
and Hess families of Monongalia County, West Virginia. The focus of the collection regards James Scott and his brother, David
Scott, who was a major in the 118th Virginia Militia. The collection references the families from the 18th century to the
20th century. Transcripts include a land grant (1774) for James Scott (1742-1781), awarded for service in the French and Indian
War. This tract of land became known as Richwoods Plantation. Transcripts also include land surveys (1790) for Jemima and
Hannah Scott in Monongalia County, correspondence, and Scott family history. Handwritten notes and clippings regard the families'
genealogy. Also includes a bill of lading of the Morgantown and Kingwood Railroad Company (8-29-1910).
